Behind every Avalex product is a team of innovative industry experts. Meet one of those team members, our Product Manager, Mark Ledbetter.
Mark Ledbetter started as the Service Department Manager at Avalex two years ago, responsible for everything related to post-delivery support for our customers. Today, he is our Product Manager. In this capacity, Mark helps map our technology trajectory moving into the future and makes business decisions about our areas served. His insight, expertise, and know-how make him an invaluable part of the Avalex family. We asked him to share his insights with us.
What do you think differentiates Avalex in the aerospace industry?
There’s a great quote from retired U.S. Army General Stanley A. McChrystal, “Adaptability, not efficiency, must become our central competency.” What he’s talking about applies to Avalex, in that we are able to face changes and adapt quickly. Because of our size, we are agile and thrive in the face of rapid change. We can arrive at a meeting Monday morning, make a decision Monday afternoon, and have it in place by Wednesday. This sets us apart.
What is the role of innovation at Avalex?
Innovation is our backbone. We don’t just sell displays or digital video recorders. Our bread and butter is being able to customize for each specific customer, exactly how they want it, whether that’s software engineering or the mechanical side.
One example of that innovation involved our contract with a large OEM that will go into U.S. military aircraft. This will help solve a major problem with their oxygen management systems. Pilots are becoming hypoxic, getting too much or too little oxygen in combat mission situations. Tad Ihns, our founder, CEO, and CTO, is the brain behind all of this. He created a solution to be integrated into these aircraft that will warn pilots. It is being tested and it will resolve a huge issue that is a top priority for the military.
What do you foresee this year?
Avalex is a company of about 90 people and the most exciting thing is our growth over the past three years. We’ve seen double-digit growth year after year. Even more impressive, we’re looking at potentially doubling that this year. We’ve received exciting military and government contracts and a lot of our product lines are starting to fall in place across multiple platforms. It’s a great place to work.
